How can I become friends with someone?

I don't have any friends. I like this dude, not in a romantic way, he's just really cool. He thinks I like him romantically, so he kind of keeps his distance. How do I explain I just want to be his friend?How can I become friends with someone?

I was I a situation like this where I was the the guy in the story but this girl get making jokes about how we were going to hook up and I took her literally (stupid me) and eventually we wound up neither friends or lovers, it was really sad. Just if you hang out don't treat it like a date and expect him to act like a boyfriend, you know like letting him pay your way all the time . If he pays pay him back or you buy next time you do something. Its not exactly right but when y someone pays your way you kind of feel obligated you know and if you like the dude you might do something you don't want to out of guilt. Which would not be cool at all. Anyway I really like your new picture, I guess that's really you this time. Not trying to sweet talk you, just saying though. It usually just happens in life but you will have to be more assertive cause u have no ideas.

dont flirt just tell him i dont like u find someone u like or dont like just for like 2 days and then te other dude will come around more
