How do you become not friends with someone of facebook?

i am friends with someone on facebook and i dont want to be anymore, how do i make it so that i am not friends with them. and if i become not friends with them, will facebook notify that person? thanks!How do you become not friends with someone of facebook?
Go to the person's profile. Scroll all the way down to the bottom, and on the left there should be a link that says ';Remove from Friends.'; Click it.

Just tried this and received a message saying that if I removed them as a friend then I could never add them again and that they would NOT be notified. So feel free to delete them. They won't know directly but they might guess if your profile is viewable to only friends and they are locked out?
