How to go from meeting someone to becoming friends?

I smile and say hi to people- sometimes make some small talk, but it never goes beyond that. Then you never see that person again. Can you give me some examples of what you talked about that led you to become friends (or more) with someone?

I'm looking for step by step instructions for dummies! :-)How to go from meeting someone to becoming friends?
all these are great answers. just open up a little and have fun about. but try being truthful with yourself first if you are friendly others will be friendly to youHow to go from meeting someone to becoming friends?
To go from aquaintance to friend, you need to find things that you can talk about. When you meet somebody and make small talk, ask about their interests, hobbies, likes, dislikes, etc. If you find something that you both agree on, keep talking about it and soon you may see that you have even more in common.

That's how I met my best friend and all my other friends.
It helps to become friends with people when you are around them a lot. You just talk about every day things like school or your job...family, pets etc. There are a multitude of things you can talk about. Try asking someone to go to the movies with you or something like that.
Hhhhmmmm - well, first of all you have to be yourself - secondly - you have interests, and you'll find someone with similar interests in time - friendship takes time to develop so please don't give up or feel as if you are alone - don't be afraid to express your point of view, be honest, remain open to different opinions, sometimes it may be better to be the listener and not the talker, and if you truly listen to others, you'll learn what they like or enjoy, or what they dislike or abhor.
